10 Facts about Jose Mourinho that will shock you! (With Pictures)


Jose Mourinho – Jose Mourinho is one of the household names in football and has been much in the news over his time in football. Having made a recent move to manage Manchester United, we take a look at some of the unknown facts about the Portuguese tactician.


1. The Newcastle United Job


Jose Mourinho refused the opportunity to become Bobby Robson’s assistant at the Magpies even after having worked under him between 1992 and 1997. Robson is reported to having said that Mourinho would be an assistant for a year or two and would eventually take over the role of the head coach but that wasn’t enough to tempt Mourinho who knew his time would come soon enough.

2. Home Fortresses

Astonishingly during the period of February 23, 2002 and April 2, 2011, Mourinho managed an incredible feat of not having lost a single home game for his sides. The extra ordinary achievement ended when the Real Madrid side that he was managing lost to Sporting Gijon 1-0 at the the Santiago Bernabeu.




3. Many Languages



Jose Mourinho is known to speak 6 different languages that include Portuguese which is his mother tongue, English, French, Spanish, Italian as well as Catalan language which he picked up while working in the backroom staff at Barcelona FC.


4. The Laundry bin



In a very bizarre story, it was revealed that Mourinho very notoriously worked his way around a stadium ban slapped upon him by UEFA for misdemeanors by reaching the Chelsea dressing room in a laundry bin to deliver his regular team talk before the UEFA Champions League quarter finals in 2005.

5. Influential


 In a very unexpected tor, Jose Mourinho was named among the most influential people in the world and was raked 9th on a list compiled by AskMen. He laughed off the suggestion by saying that his wife should be in eighth and revealed that he isn’t even in influential in running his household. Although most would agree that Mourinho is an influential individual, he certainly has had his problems and controversies with individuals as well.

6. Dr. Mourinho 

  


 In recognition of his contributions to forwarding football as a sport and his achievements in bringing repute to Portuguese football after winning several honors, Jose Mourinho received an honorary doctorate for his massive achievements in football from the Lisbon Technical University in 2009. A high honor indeed in recognition of how far Mourinho has come after biting football as a young player.


7. Rockstar


It was in the year 2011 that the Spanish Edition of the Rolling Stone named Jose Mourinho as the “Rockstar of the Year” citing the Portuguese manager’s very interesting antics in press conferences as well as his provocative style of interaction with the press as a primary reason for giving him the title. Mourinho has a beloved relationship with the press that continues to this day.

8. P.E teacher 



Mourinho was a PE teacher for a brief while during his development days in Portugal and became an instant hit with the pupils. One of his pupils remarked that none of the girls wanted to do PE before the “Special One” came along but since he took over there were hardly any sick notes seen.

9. Quitting School On The Very First Day



Mourinho was 23 when he gave up his footballing career and was subsequently enrolled in business school by his mother who had to see her son quit after just one day to engage himself in other football related jobs which in the end led to him becoming one of the biggest names in football.


10. Arrested
 
Jose Mourinho was arrested and let off after cautionary warnings just days before the 2007 FA Cup final for refusing to let the authorities take his dog named Gullit into quarantine because they suspected that the pert had not received proper vaccinations. Mourinho smuggled the Yorkie dog out of the back of his house and was subsequently arrested for resisting the quarantine.
